Greenwood’s Model Diabetes U Student

(Stoneville) - Versie Triplett is determined to manage her diabetes because she has seen some of her immediate family members affected by the disease. Her brother who lives in Kansas City had to have a foot amputated as a result of not managing the condition properly. Triplet knew that in order to fight the condition, she had to go back to school-Diabetes U in particular. This three-month long course held at the Leflore County Health Center is sponsored by the Delta Health Alliance’s Team Sugar Free Project. Temesa Crawford, nurse educator for the Greenwood class,instructed Triplet on nutrition, physical fitness and glucose A1C or blood sugar monitoring.

(Stoneville) - Indianola Promise Community Director Eligah Johnson often describes the long range community improvement initiative as having “several moving parts.” No other partnership within IPC exemplifies this statement quite like organizations that comprise the W. K. Kellogg Foundation grant partnership. This three year $5 million initiative began in July 2011 and brings together the resources and expertise of several different organizations to improve the lives of Indianola’s citizens. Partnering organizations include Mississippi Center for Education Innovation (MSCEI), Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Parents for Public Schools of Jackson (PPSJ), Mississippi State University Early Childhood Institute and the Indianola Public School District.

Delta Health Alliance and City of Indianola: Working Together to Bring Fresh Food to the Community

(Stoneville, MS) – Delta Health Alliance is partnering with the City of Indianola for an initiative that will provide residents with year-round fresh produce through a city-wide community garden. Groundbreaking activities for the Indianola Community Garden will be held on February 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the garden’s location between Jefferson and Oak Streets (next to Carver Elementary School). The community is invited and is encouraged to attend as community members are the key players in the success of the garden.
